Times are competitive and printers are increasingly looking for ways to reduce costs. Like many, you too may be using third party inks thinking you’re saving money, but are you really? Well Roland DG reports that they are increasingly finding that their customers are turning their backs on third-party inks and are returning to Roland’s Eco-Sol MAX ink.
Roland customer Classic Stickers is a case in point. They chose to migrate to third-party inks, but have now chosen to return to Roland’s Eco-Sol MAX ink.
“It’s a false economy using third party inks,” states Jason Williams of Classic Stickers. “On the surface you think you’re getting a good deal for your inks, but until you try you don’t realise the real cost to your business. In the end you pay for what you get and they’re really not worth the hassle. I would recommend to anyone to stay clear of using third party inks, no matter what you think they’ll save you; you shouldn’t believe everything they promise.”
Such is the variety in the quality of third party inks in the marketplace; Roland DG says many customers are now unsure where to turn and are questioning whether it is worth taking the risk.
According to Mat Drake, business manager for Roland Ink, there is an increasing realisation that ink only makes up around 5% of what the customer could charge for a print. “In these financial times, customers are increasingly telling us that they don’t want to take any risks for such a small saving per square metre printed,” he says.
Asked specifically what issues the ink caused him Mr. Williams says: “I had real problems with colour matching, I tried to convince myself there was no difference in colour and quality, but I knew, and so did my customers. I knew instantly that buying the genuine Eco-Sol MAX inks was the answer – it took away the stress, the time wasting, and the risks and ensured I was producing top quality, vibrant prints that kept my customers happy and business successful.”
We say as the manufacturer, Roland like other wide format manufacturers, have spent years perfecting their ink formulations to ensure that their inks and your machines will work in combination to deliver durable, scratch resistant results. Stringent quality controls are in place to ensure you get guaranteed colour consistency from cartridge to cartridge, and you can be sure that there is no risk of damage to your machine or warranty uncertainty.
Cheaper third party inks are certainly an attractive option, particularly when times are tough, but it only takes one bad apple to spoil the barrel. That’s certainly worth keeping in mind as you quote for your next big print project with a new client who has the potential to become a lucrative and long term customer.
