Tricks of the Trade: The Job of a Graphics Installer

Lowen Certified is a training and certification facility located in Hutchinson, Kan. Specializing in teaching individuals the tricks of the trade, to land the job they desire. Going through Lowen training, prepares individuals for a rigorous certification process that adheres to 3M ™ preferred graphics installer certification. Many, who become certified by Lowen, receive 3M ™ certification too.

There are many trades a person can get involved in after Lowen Certification; one being a vehicle graphics installer. This individual will need to know how to wrap vinyl on many different types of surfaces. Corrugated panels, compound curves and flat panels with rivets are all taught in the certification program and most commonly used in real world application. This training will cover wrapping both commercial vehicles and fleets.

Right now Graphics installers are at a high demand. Companies are starting to realize that fleet graphics are some of the best way to market their products and services because of the fact that it’s only 18 cents CPM.

Lowen Certification also opens the door for you to become part of the installation network. Lowen works with brands all over the country, so when work goes to a specific region, installers are need. Lowen Certified installers take preference in many cases.

A lot of the people that we have that come through our Lowen Certified doors are already in the field of some sort. For example, we have numerous people who work in autobody repair shops or own their own smaller-sized print shop. Although, we also have a handful of people that have never touched vinyl before in their life and have an interest in learning more about the installation process.

Either way, Lowen Certified provides training and certification for those of all skill level. If you're interested in getting into the field, I would suggest taking a look at Lowen Certified's website and register for a training class. If you would like to learn about all types of applications, I would probably choose the 3M Preferred/ 2 Day vehicle wrap class, which is a week long class that covers all applications from complext curves, to semi-truck panels, walls and floors.

Next, if you're already in the printing industry, it would be good to make some contacts with people who are in need of graphics installers- a place to get your foot into. After training, you will want to practice a bit before coming back for certification.

After you take the training you will have a waiting period before you can come back and test for the certification. This is to insure that you have had some time to practice. Because our standards coincide with 3M, the test is very difficult but those who pass are held to the highest standard in the industry. We also offer those who pass an opportunity to be a part of our Lowen Color Graphics installation network.

Colin, if you or your friend are interested for more information, please give Dennis Shea a call at the Lowen Certified facility at 620.665.2822. He'd be able to answer any other specific questions you may have.

Thanks!

I spoke with an old mate earlier today who wanted to re train away from litho printing into something such as this. My question Jordan is how would somebody start in this line of work? What if I fancied spending the kids’ inheritance and decided to give it all up and become a graphics installer. How would I go about getting started?
